Gorazde, May 11, 2004.  One-day workshop about the first steps in Local Economic Development  was held in ALDI u.g. Conference room for representatives of local governmental officials and councillors in local legislative bodies. This second training module was organised in scope of the project “Strengthening of local government capacities in Gorazde Canton through more considerable participation of citizens in decisions-making process"

As the ALDI u.g. Executive Director, Mr Demir Imamovic (the lecturer) emphasized, the aim of that seminar was that officials in municipalities as well as municipal councillors and cantonal assembly representatives get introduced with the first steps in Local Economic Development  and that they through discussion attempt to answer questions such as “How we can apply knowledge and experiences of the others that successfully passed through this process”?, and “How civil society and private sector may get involved into Local Economic Development  process?”

The participants were representatives of legislative power in the Gorazde Canton and municipalities of this Canton, officials from the Gorazde, Foca-Ustikolina and Pale-Praca municipalities, and members of ALDI Team for Local Economic Development .

Seminar was going on in accordance with the following agenda:

1.     Review of different approaches in creation of the first steps in Local Economic Development  (Creation of clear and determined objectives – plans and strategies; Creation of mechanisms; Identification of clear and measurable activities; Monitoring of success 

2.     Economic plans and strategies in practice (Practical benefit from the existing strategies and plans for LED; How to use existing strategies and plans for activities on LED; Discussion: Identification of concrete and real LED objectives)

3.     Establishment of partnership for LED (Identification of needs for partnership; Partnership between administration and council/assembly; Partnership between institutions; Partnership between public and private sector)

4.      Discussion: Identification of key persons that should be involved in activities on LED

5.     Making an efficient mechanism for administration of LED (Forming bodies for LED with clear objectives; Communication mechanisms; Creation of frame for LED oriented towards end users)

6.     Promotion of activities on LED (Forming of local forums and bodies; Organisation of public events; Organisation of TV and Radio programmes)

7.     Potentials for LED (Potential possibilities for work on LED; The Law on direct  election of mayors; Possibility of using the EU funds in LED)

8.      Making and adoption of conclusions from the workshop
